Marie A Bright wrote plaintively on Facebook yesterday after the post on Sugar:
What if you have a sweet tooth but don’t want to use sugar? I know artificial sweeteners are no good either but sometimes, you want a bit of sweet. Robin, I know you don’t really have a sweet tooth and you are so lucky but is there anything out there that is natural but not harmful to your health? Thanks.
Without much reflection I suggested a square of 80-90% cacao chocolate, a slice of apple, a dried fig or apricot or a bowl of raspberries.
It is the season–supposedly! Summer arrives officially in a week, though it’s hard to credit.
I’d bought a small punnet yesterday in a new vegetable & fruit shop in Castres.
They looked good–but not exactly home grown.
But mixed in with some Realmont Market strawberries from a trusted source–they made a colorful addition to my breakfast bowl and lifted the spirits.
Soon after, from somewhere in deep cover in the garden, Meredith announced :
“We have raspberries!” Hardly a bowl of them yet, but thanks to the rain and now the sunshine we live in hope.
Beau was on the case too–Watson to Meredith’s Sherlock.
Here’s perhaps more than you need to know about raspberries!
Beau has to be one of the cutest little love bugs I have ever seen! He always looks like he is “up to no good!” Lol!
Ha Raspberries, I eat them almost daily about 50 gr.Not fresh is too expensif here in Belgium but per packs 500-750 gr.frozen, and I most say the quality is better then the “fresh” one find here in de supermarket.I eat them because they are good for me, they take a lot of water out my legg just like aspargus do.Fresh out of the garden must be heaven ,fully agree!Big hugs, Chantal.
By the way nice pictures of the raspberries Meridith, and Beau looks so sweet in between the cool bushes full with yummy raspberries!
We have been fortunate to have really wonderful raspberries, the local varieties are coming in now and have been delicious and sweet. I’ve been gorging on them along with blueberries and blackberries.
Beau is a tremendously adorable boy.
Great pics!
Hi, Robin. Perhaps you are aware of this already, but in case you are not, there is a website I like (www.webmd.com) that provides a lot of helpful information about various health issues as well as some very tasty and healthy recipes you might be interested in.
Cheers,
Lynn
Meredith Robin you have sunshine? almost forgot what that is, it’s more like April here along with the showers. Your raspberries will soon grow and be ready for eating – will you have to protect them from our feathered friends? We have to put a net over the cherry tree, the birds line up on the fence and watch them, then swoop on them in force, and I feed nuts bacon rind and fat balls to the villans ,arr well its nice to see them in the g@btarden.I see Meredith had some helping paws in the garden,it will be his first time for seeing things grow and come alive will it?
We have rasberries growing in the garden and they taste nothing like shop bought, they are lush. I do not like any sugar on rasberries or strawberries, i just put fromage frais over them healthier than cream and nicer. Beau is such a lovely looking cat, i would have him tomorrow if he turned up on my doorstep.
Raspberries, we call them frambozen! my favourite! and it’s very healthy, so enjoy them!
Beau is so cute!
