That’s it–we’re done!
Our last flight was yesterday to Snowmass/Aspen for a couple of days rest staying with friends before flying toLondon via Dallas .
Our six city adventure comes to a close with two book signings in the Bay Area.
Thursday evening in Palo Alto’s branch of Books Inc–a small independent chain of bookstores— maybe forty people were gathered in this generous space set up by the very welcoming staff.
And Friday night at The Booksmith on Haight Street in San Francisco, where a friendly crowd sent us off with smiles on our faces and a suitcase full of good wishes.
What a place to finish–historic Haight–where it was at in the 60’s.
Three and a half weeks of heavy duty travel–we’re pooped and Meredith has a heavy cold, but WHAT a trip.
On the flight from San Francisco were several disabled military veterans heading for the slopes and their annual Spring Break week–over four hundred of them will be here for the launch tomorrow.
I just had a chat with one of them–sitting on a bench in the sun.
Injured in Iraq in 2004–he’d been through forty six operations–battled with military doctors who said he’d never walk again–won through to ski for the first time here in 2006 and has been coming to this remarkable reunion week every year since.
“I can ski now–standing up!” he said.
I had to bite my lip and forgot my tiredness.
Robin, you certainly know just how much you are still treasured by everyone here in the US! I hope you will come back and see us again in the near future!! Safe travels!
Robin and Meredith,
I shall never EVAH forget you and the time I met ‘Poldark’ and his Lady is now added to one of THE highlight of my life 😀
Thank you for sharing your trip with us and wishing Meredith a quick recovery from her cold as well as a safe trip home!
Best Always,
Melanie & Don (who’s now telling everyone that would listen that he’s met you both and is continuing his ‘six degrees of separation’ game 🙂 )
Robin, I loved following your trip to the States….each and every blog and photo was enjoyable! It was wonderful to have you and Meredith on our soil…you are most gracious visitors. Your friends and animals waiting at home will be so happy to see you both! Have a very safe trip home. And Meredith… hoping you are soon well.
Thanks Brenda.
Hope you enjoy your rest time, you both certainly deserve some time together.
What a wonderful trip you must have had,it shows just how much people appreciate the time you put into the book and the pleasure of meeting you face to face. is in every picture you have shown. A very successful visit for everyone.
Hope Meredith feels better soon.
It never ceases to amaze me just how resourceful the human being can be,the young skier’s taking it all in thier stride to get their lives back. 46 operations that
takes some beating. Enjoy yourself’s, and safe journey’s home.
Thanks Elaine–wonderful trip but we are ready to come back!
I hope you both have a safe trip home. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us!
been wonderful traveling along with you both. Hope Meredith feels better soon.
Robin, thank you for the honor and privilege of meeting you and Meredith. I appreciate you even more now — far more than than words can say. You really gave of yourselves despite travel-weariness, making us feel like friends you just met. No doubt that veteran feels the same.
You must be a bit homesick for the friends and pets at home, but please come back before too long. Can you tell how much we love you here, and now Meredith as well? Your lovely pebble, as Margaret might say.
I am so sorry to hear Meredith caught cold — not the best souvenir to take home. Perhaps with some Jewish penicillin (and crackers, of course) and a few hot toddies, she will feel better before your return flight.
Perhaps metaphorically, our skies have returned to the more typical gray of March, but the Mediterranean sunshine you brought will stay with us in the kitchen and at the dining table as we share your food with friends.
Bon voyage as you return to the home you love.
Nancy
So nice to speak with you Robin. Rodrigo told me your slide show had images from your blog, so I could imagine them in my head as I listened. And I immediately heard Ross in the room when you read to us from your introduction. (Exactly as I’d heard Ross on the DVD Mom and I had watched earlier that evening to celebrate your visit.) Safe travels home.
Your stories and pics have provided a travel journal that I will miss once you return home to France…until you next travel adventure.
Am sorry to hear that Meredith is not feeling well. Hope she is better soon. Will be curious to hear how you kitties greet you (or not?) when you get home. 🙂
Thanks for coming and having the patience to greet so many people. It was a real pleasure to meet you both here in Washington. I hope Meredith feels better quickly, and that you have a safe trip home.
Robin, you’re flying out through Dallas?? Will wave at you… so sorry you couldn’t make a proper stop here. Maybe next time, but in the meantime, have a great journey, and I know how glad you and Meredith will be to be home!
Really enjoying your book, Deborah. I’ve had to read it in short bursts because of the trip but it’s an oasis of calm to which I look forward to returning each evening. Thanks and Dallas next time!
Au revoir to you Robin-Ross-Meredith. We tried to support and SPICE up your arduous journey with all our hearts but obviously you left behind endearing enduring mark. Go now in peace and reclaim your little lovely place but your efforts can not will not stagnate.
Robin, I can imagine that you both are tired and exhausted. This was really an ambitious programme ! Thanks for sharing your trip with us it was so interesting to follow you across the US, especially California where I’m personally have good memories. Take some rest and get well soon Meredith. Have a safe journey back home to old Europe.
As usual, Robin, thank you for your heartfelt story. War brings sadness, broken lives and destroyed families; but it is truly amazing how some get through it with bravery – and even gratitude, like your extraordinary young man. Have a wonderful time on our beautiful slopes; hoping Meredith will recover to enjoy them, too! XO
Dear Robin and Meredith,
after a successful lightning tour of United States I wish you both a safe return home.
I’m so very sorry that poor Meredith has caught a cold. It can be very distressing while travelling. If at all possible chamomille tea with a teaspoon of honey (or according to taste) and a slice of lemon should ease her cold and help her to sleep. Dear Meredith, I wish you well and a quick recovery.
It’s nice to travel to new places and see new people, but it’s oh so nice to came home. Take care Meredith. I am sure friends and puss cats will be glad to see back in France.
Safe travels.
Welcome back to Europe! I hope you will have a good flight! It seems a long time ago when I got your signed copy from Primrosebookstore.
I am, like many other writers on your blog, very curious to the cats, how is their reaction when they see you after such a long time!
Best wishes to meredith and to you of course!
You did a marathon too!
We’ll see! Pippa is a little “stand-offish” usually, but it doesn’t last long.
Happy landing Robin(after 14-18 hour flight?), the cats and all the other animals will be happy to see you back.
And I will be happy when you are safe back in France, take some rest you will need it after 3 1/2 weeks.Hughs, Chantal xxx.
Your entry made ME tear up! Freedom isn’t free and sadly some pay a much bigger price than others. God Bless Them!
Safe journey home to you both! It was wonderful to meet you, hurry back when you can.
Robin,
Good to follow your blog and travels. Cindi and I arrived in Angles Sat eve after a long and delayed flight from Dallas via London. We are around for three weeks with a week in the middle on the Chemin. Hope to see you on your return.
Tell meredith hi and we hope she recovers from her cold. Weather here is spectacular after the record cold winter. We have been away for 6 months and it is good to be back!
All the best,
Jay
Pippa. Like a female? Or is she a male?
