Sitting here with a little chap on the arm of the chair–who just moved onto my tum!
He’s eaten his first meal of the New Year and is purring loudly.
I’m telling him I have to get up and make porridge for the patient–but he pays no attention.
Noises off prick up his ears and he moves to the other arm of the chair.
“Could be that grumpy cat who keeps growling or could be something I’ve never seen before and needs investigating.”
Back on my tummy he decides my left hand needs a thoroughly licking–“this guy hasn’t bathed yet and it’s nearly ten!”.
The tickle of the rough tongue on the back of my hand makes me get up and light the gas under the porridge pot.
I set the tray and he checks out the cat bowls–just in case he’d missed something.
The first day of the New Year is on its way–up and running.
Scamper and hide.
Arch and jump.
Tap-tap-tap the ball and crouch.
For Beau everyday is a new start and that could be my first resolution–start each day like Beau!
He is without question unlike any other cat…!
I arch and scamper upstairs with the tray…!
The ones that find YOU are usually unlike any other cats! Altho each cat has it’s own distinct & memorable personality. I could write a book. But I won’t. Hope Meredith is on the mend, and I look forward to your blog posts in 2012.
Hello Robin,Cats are so clever, just like mine.Puske-puske wished us just a minute before 12 she came out of the bedroom (infact her place where she’s sleep) to wish my husband and me with cuddles a Happy New year. She has her ways unbelievable but true.Every day at 11.30 p.m she’s waiting in front of the TV, that we make a move to go to bedroom for her beauty sleep.
Wishing you and your family and all the pets a very healthy happy Newyear with a lot of sunshine in La douce France!! Big hughs, Chantal & Puske-puske xxx.
This is the sweetest way to jumpstart a brand new year. Thank you, for this wonderful life-affirming reminder, Robin. And you are such a graceful writer and you make me wish these posts were longer. Feel better, dear Meredith. And lastly, thank you Beau for being just who you are and making us see the wonder of life through your magnificent cat eyes.
Health and joy, peace and love to all
kathy
Oh dear, is Meredith not feeling well? What a lousy way to start the New Year. Hope she feels better soon!
Lovely start to the new year. I hope Meredith feels better soon.
What a wonderful description! I hope Meredith is better, and I wish all of you a wonderful New Year!
Well, what a thoughtful and meaningful way to start the New Year! Happy New Year to you and Meredith. I have in my house two cats, and two kittens (their mother is here too) and two outside cats. The starting morning routine is always a “big deal” at the house here with the cats! Don’t know what I would do without them!
Thank you and I know that morning routine!
I recommend miraculous ginger tea for any kind of throat ailment! It consists of ginger tea with a bit of ground ginger, cayenne pepper and turmeric added in with 2 teaspoons of honey. Sounds hideous, I know, but the results are nothing short of amazing! Also, a good old-fashioned ginger poultice works wonders on coughs and colds. I am sure the good Dr. Enys would agree!
I shall administer it tonight–thank you!
It seems Beau is a great discoverer, although he looks so innocent.
P.S. Good comment about banks ! I’ve been working more than 20 years in finance and can confirm this.
Wünsche allen ein frohes und gesundes neues Jahr !
LOVE your post! Sounds a bit like our start to the New Year:
7 AM–Awaken to find Sassy has taken over my spot in bed…I move over to accomodate her, of course. 9:30AM–Scamper is meowing loudly downstairs for his breakfast–who needs a rooster? Once in the kitchen, he & Sassy swat each other over who should be fed first. 11:30–Tootsie dashes through my husband’s feet and into the garage to make sure that no mice have moved in overnight. 1PM: Winnie sits patiently by a Christmas present box, trying to figure out what’s rustling inside. Scamper peers out silently through a crack. 2PM: Oreo (bunny) paws at the door of his cage, insistently demanding to be let out again now that he’s finished his afternoon nap in the hay…
I wish EVERY day could be like this!!
Cheers & hugs!
Sweet. Looks like my kitty, Tina Terrific. A sweet face with a sweet disposition to match.
Adorable, what a sweet cat!
Lovely Beau with the red collar! The photo in Christmas-style is great.
Our kitten Maupie, six month now,she don’t like a colar, she is scratching her neck all the time.
How old do you think Beau is?
Happy new year to you and Meredith!
Thanks–we think about 3/4 months old.
Love your post and pics too. As you know I and hubby loved cats too much!! Here, pirotenics’s fires, began around 5p.m. of 31 of Dec.and we know how disturb and became frightened our fur-friends. We decided with another 4 friends to spend our new year’s eve at home (my home)have fun and take care of ours pets. It was delightful and lovely night: 6 human being, 5 cats and 2 dogs. I arranged in a room apart a sofa, and a big sofa were “friends”have had great time together(its a habit for them staied together). I can’t imagine the best way to stay all together taking care to ours dearest friends!
How is going Meredith???Please a hug from me!!!
Thanks Beatrice–sounds like a lovely way to spend New Year’s.
Meredith is still “au lit” and I just spoke to our doctor who said this lasts ten days in his experience.
Poor Meredith–but the rest of the household is very understanding and she seeing more TV in a few days than she watches in a year!!
I love cats and all animals. Have you sorted out the problem of one catching birds? Does the bell work? It used to upset me when our cat went up on the moors and caught birds– my dad put a bell on a collar round her neck but I’m not sure if that worked.
Thing is we treat cats like cuddly teddy bears and forget sometimes that as animals, it’s their instinct to kill mice, rats and birds–we can’t change them.
Oh, you were cooking a rabbit.Just a story for you. When I was a child, I used to play with our Italian neghbours’ children. One day, the little girl was crying–when I asked her what was wrong, she told me her mum had put their pet rabbits in the pot and made them eat them!
Years later, I mentioned this to the mother and she just looked me straight in the eye and said that her husband was an invalid–and not working–she was on a low wage so she kept the rabbits and ate them feeding all 4 children!!
Other people have also told me–if you had been through a war or you were starving, you would eat anything placed on the plate.
