We sold out of Healthy Eating for Life and Making Poldark–and had a good time besides.
Old friendships were renewed and new ones made in the heat of the March sun this afternoon in pretty Larchmont Village, LA.
Chevalier’s Bookshop is hanging in there, against the odds–as are many independent bookstores here in the US and in Europe, supported by the local community–but will it be enough?
Larchmont reminded me of Primrose Hill in North London–and Chevalier’s of Primrose Hill Books. These small scale enterprises need our support, acting as a buttress against the corporate take over of the High Street.
Tomorrow–16th March–we head for Palo Alto and Books Inc. opposite the Stanford campus.
Monday evening we are at The Booksmith on Haight Street in San Francisco–come and meet if you are near by!
The Experience You Can’t Download!
Glad your trip is going well & the weather’s holding out for you on the West Coast! Hope you get to say hello to Jill Townsend, again!
(Now off to bed on the East Coast!)
Cheers & hugs!
So glad your book signings are going so well, it must be a tiring trip for you but it does allow lots of people to come and see you. You are so right about the book shops closing down, there are so many in the UK that have gone, there is nothing like a real book to read! technology is ok but there is nothing like the real thing! hope the rest of your trip goes well:-)
Good luck with that one Robin! You’ll be needing a holiday!:-))
Congratulations! That is so awesome. Good for you and good for the bookstore! 🙂 Good luck with your next stop of your tour.
So good they can stay open in this market. Congrats on the book but had no doubt you would do well!!
I am glad your Book Signing Tour is going well. It is a shame that small businesses can’t compete now. I am pleased to relate that I bought my granddaughter Anya the starter set of “Nancy Drew” hardcover books and she was really excited. She is 11. So there is still hope.
wonderful that everything went well. You will miss another winter storm on the east coast!!
Congratulations! Great Success. Can you please send me the info again regarding the company where we can order your new cookbook since we can’t get it from Amazon.
Have a wonderful day.
ellen
I just checked on amazon.com and it shows up top of the pile.
I can’t figure out why they sent us an e-mail canceling our order. Will try again. Thank you so much for answering. Take good care. ellen
Any chance you could come up to Portland after San Francisco?
That would be a nice thing to do but we are booked to fly to New York–next time perhaps.
Barb, I was hoping the same 😦
I gave my husband Poldark, Season 1 (quickly followed up by purchasing Season 2 !) for Christmas in 2012. My late Mother and I watched the original when Poldark aired on a Tampa, Florida PBS station back in the 1970’s. Mom and I loved it then and all these years later my husband and I loved watching it together every evening!
This brings me to hope that one day your book tour will bring you closer to where we live in Venice, Florida…a beautiful small city on the Gulf of Mexico on the West Coast of Florida, not far from Sarasota and about 80 miles south of Tampa. Google Sarasota, Florida, (specifically Siesta Key) it would be a lovely place for you and Meridith to do a bit of a recoup! Thank you for bringing such wonderful entertainment to us and I am so happy your book is such a success!
Thanks Andie–much appreciated.
I had a wonderful time meeting you and Meredith. It was definitely worth the 38 year wait! Great news that all the books sold out AND the sun was shining this time. I hope that you are a good time in the Bay Area. You missed an earthquake early this morning!
Safe travels.
xo
It was great seeing you and Meredith again and meeting new friends like Jackie who share our devotion to you and your work. Am planning this week’s menus from Healthy Eating For Life. After our scare in January, we appreciate everyday we have and what importance good nutrition plays in it! Keep up the good work!! Cheers! Maureen and Ron (El Darko, the Mexican Poldark).
Good to see you two too, Maureen! Keep up the work and say Hi to El Darko! who was looking in great shape–congrats to him.
So glad the book tour is going so well You are so right about small book shops the big boys are everywhere there is something really relaxing about going round a small book shop and not being pounced on by over zealous shop assistants. We are all with you.
Best wish to you both.
Thanks Elaine–we are having a good if frenetic time!
Hi Robin, I’m sorry to report that I’ve come down with some kind of bug and won’t be able to say hello tonight at Booksmith. Don’t want to get either of you sick. Rodrigo and I send our love and best wishes for a great visit to SF. Next time!
Thank you Colleen–get better soon!
Delighted to know the book tour is going so well. I sent a friend to your appearance in San Francisco today. He got an inscribed copy to send me! He was also pleased to rediscover a nice bookshop that he’d forgotten.
Wish you and Meredith would come to Santa Fe. We have two great independent book stores.
Nancy, Santa Fe, NM
One day in Santa Fe, Nancy!
Are you going to be making it to the Chicago area on your book tour? We would love to see me.
Pat Allen
Oh double darn – I missed your SF signing – can’t get away from Sonoma Co. on weekdays. I suppose it’s too late now, but is there ever a chance of your someday coming to Copperfield’s in Petaluma, CA (Sonoma County)? Great bookstore. I heard Joyce Carol Oates lecture there, among others. They would love you !! Hope you are having a glorious trip and that your books are selling like hotcakes. Thank a MILLION for inspiring me to cook again. Does wonders for my well-being. (Would love to have met Meredith too – we grew up in the same neighborhood no. of Chicago. You married a nice gal!)
One day, Jean, I want to visit Sonoma. Thanks for your kind comment.

Will we b able to purchase ur book at the Eataly? This is so exciting!!!!!
We have a few copies but this is essentially a meet-up and signing session.
I can’t believe I missed your book signing at Booksmith on Haight Street, San Francisco ( I live within 5 minutes walking distance off the store) & missed the ultimate pleasure of meeting you, Robin Ellis: THE Ross Poldark. I’ve done the next best thing & ordered a copy from Amazon ( along with The Making of Poldark). Sadly, I won’t be able to have them signed by you :-(. But, will enjoy all the same. Am really enjoying reading your blog & can’t wait to try out some of your recipes. The photos are such that it looks like I just need to grab a spoon or a fork & I could taste!
All the best,
Kathi
Welcome Kathi and I’m sorry you missed the event at the wonderful Booksmith. We had a good time and look forward to a return one day!
Glad to hear it was a success! Till next time at Booksmith or Books, Inc. ( California Street) My book should be here shortly. Look forward to enjoying cooking again. Thank you for that!
