With CBS anchor Kris Gutierrez in Chicago for the early show this morning (as part of their upcoming diabetes awareness program)
Dawn came up as we headed downtown with the early risers this morning–sister-in-law Mary driving us through the light traffic just a little before her normal hour.
The early morning CBS program had invited me to do a brief cooking piece to be aired as part of their ground-breaking Diabetes Awareness campaign–so great they have taken the lead on this important health issue.
It was anchor Kris Gutierrez’s second day on the job–he recently relocated from Dallas–and it was my first ever on-air demo!
So two debutantes “struttin’ with some barbecue“!
Meredith was holding her breath–she gets nervous on occasions like this.
Kris was a delight and made me feel like I knew what I was doing.
I could get a taste for this…
Dear Robin,Seems to be a big tour you do in the USA.Must be exhousting. Enjoy but also take some rest.I see your back in the filming spot, splendid!,Robin you have already a big experience of many years before of all the good series you made.I be sure you done good.Remember there’s no business like showbusiness, and I love it!Like I told you before….DVD’s coming of the cooking ??Hughs, Chantal xxx.
Sounds wonderful, Robin! Hoping that Meredith has exhaled now…& you are both enjoying your exciting trip! Cold & grey here in England right now…your sunny smiles are much appreciated!
Hmmm. . . maybe a tape could find its way to Food Network or Cooking Network . . . your own cooking show . . . you can be the anti-Paula Deen of cookery. Nothing against Paula, but I’d bet she could be helped by your recipes.
Good Morning, Robin (Meredith too)!
Great post! I think you need your own cooking show 🙂
You’re a natural 🙂
Once you two arrive back home and have a good rest, I’d love to have you on my blog. After all we’re all about romance (I’m sensing you have a great ROMANCE IN REAL LIFE post), but we also review books, TV and movies, and POLDARK series, your book Making of Poldark, and the cooking book are now on my radar and we’ll review them in the upcoming months. I usually review it one day and have an interview with the author the next day. I so hope you’ll be available (we’ll take you ANY time that’s convenient to you).
Off topic, Would Meredith be so kind to send me a pic she took of the two of us? No hurry however. My email is wrong on my card, so here’s the one that works:
melanie.friedman@sbcglobal.net
Wishing you a great visit here in the Windy City, to which you seem to have brought all the sunshine we can use 🙂

Better than pistols at dawn, yes?
Did you throw in this “Down Salmon Potatoless Fishcake” a few fried capers?
Not down but dawn. Anyhow…very handsome debutantes!
You sound as though you are enjoying yourselves hugely. It is great to hear of your exploits ‘in the New World’. Was it SWORDfishcakes at dawn? Seem to remember you were a pistol man many moons ago. Will the demonstration be posted here?
Good luck for the rest of the tour.
Please post the video when you get it. I just know you were terrific!
Congrats on the on-air demo! A lot of us love seeing how a dish is prepared if we’ve never done it before. Makes it look more possible in our own kitchens. Safe travels.
Can we see a clip of your live debut? Sounds like it was fun! BTW, if you’re back in the UK at some point, how about a slot on something like Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour? I know a lot of people who would love to hear you!
Would love to be able to see your presentation. Is it available anywhere on the web?
Robin I think that your debut as a T.V. cook was a great success, looking at the pictures you posted you are a natural.
The segment was taped for airing later. The producer promised to send us the link when it airs–and of course we’ll share it!
Look forward to seeing the segment. What a whirlwind, hope you both are not getting too exhausted. Cheers from a fan in ohio and you have another new fan, my scottish neighbour just LOVED your book.
Cooking fishcakes at dawn in a strange kitchen? Cher Robin, mon ami, vous avez du courage! A wonderful debut as well. I wish you both every success for the remainder of a very tiring tour…
Cooking demos in front of the camera should be old hat for you by now! Perhaps if Meredith had been running one of the cameras…?
Loved that Lake Michigan pic the other day–what a pretty spot! Hope you’ve had time to relax under the gorgeous full moon the last few nights. Robin, are you enjoying the effects you’re having on the female populace in America? You’re even making the planets align! 😉 Meredith must feel smug!
Cheers & hugs from NH!
From cook book writer to TV chef? Good luck Robin.
Not only you are famous but right now …your fishcakes are famous too!
Well done Robin!
Wish you a super tour!
Love Caroline
Great post Robin! I agree with the other ladies. You should do a cooking series! Looking forward to the airing of your CBC spot! Don’t forget to let us know!
Robin: I am looking forward to viewing this link. It was a pleasure meeting and visiting with you and Meredith in Chicago. It was well worth the long trip from Minnesota. You and your recipes are an inspiration for me to eat right to manage my Type 2 Diabetes. Have safe travels to California and I’m looking forward to seeing your debut on a cooking show!
It was a pleasure for us too Mary Lou and thank you for coming all that way. The sun has come out here this morning in LA and we are having a quiet couple of hours!
Seriously, Robin, you could do a show on the Cooking Channel here in America. Many of their programs are filmed in countries like England and Italy and Canada. It would be exciting to have a show filmed in Southwestern France.
Christopher Walken auditioned for the Food Channel. But he didn’t wash his hands while working with chicken so they didn’t hire him!
Christopher Walken? That sounds scary… of course he doesn’t wash his hands!! (Ha)
Chris Walken likes cooking, coincidence (lol) just read it today(this morning) that Angelina’s dad has that as his favorite hobby.
Robin when do you go back to France?I hope you take a rest sometimes, hughs, Chantal xxx.
