Georgetown Book Event
March 9, 2012 by Robin Ellis
Wonderful book event in Georgetown last night!
Thanks to author, nutritionist and all-around whirlwind, Katherine Tallmadge for organizing the event; Nancy Taylor Bubes for opening her beautiful home to more than 80 guests, the American Institute of Wine and Food for co-sponsoring, and Executive Chef, Janis McLean of Bistrot Le Zinc for demonstrating the potato-less salmon fishcakes recipe–and thanks to all who turned out, many bringing dishes prepared from recipes in Delicious Dishes for Diabetics.
The Washington Post’s Food Editor Bonnie Benwick was present the entire evening and wrote a wonderful account today: http://wapo.st/xGHO30/.
We leave balmy Washington D.C. where the magnolia blossoms are opening for the Windy City tomorrow!
Wishing you much success!
The American dream house…. I love it, the style, the red color.. beautiful!
Things are going right I suppose?
love Caroline
I cannot remember when I had a more lovely evening. New friends, excellent food, and a new appreciation for the food I prepare and consume. You are absolutely charming, as is your beautiful wife. I wish you safe travels and continued good health. I promise to try a new recipe at least once a week! I am so happy to have finally met you. Say hi to #14 in Los Angelas but remember I got dibs on you…in my dreams at least. (smile). Thanks again for a magical night. Michele Reilly Hall (#15).
Michele – you are a sweetie! it was wonderful meeting you…
It’s official. Now that I’ve met Robin Ellis in person during his recent Washington, D.C. visit, I have gone completely gaga by this man and his lovely collaborator and wife, Meredith. But I’m also charmed by Robin’s cookbook, website, and posts which transport… inspire… to live better, healthier -Mediterranean style… filled with simple, yet elegant classics I will cook regularly myself and recommend to my clients every day. Thank you so much, Robin & Meredith for your warm, gracious presence in my ‘hood – if even for just a moment!
[…] collaborator and wife, Meredith Wheeler. But I’m also charmed by his cookbook, website, and posts – and I believe you will be too – and I guarantee you’ll be transported… […]

Our little Georgetown event made today’s Washington Post’s Food section’s PRINT edition (It was online the day after the event on Thursday)! The whole, very long and detailed article, along with a picture of Robin squeezing lemons, is on page E-4!
Hoorah!Hoorah!–thanks again, Katherine, for your inspiration.
Hi Robin,
It all reminds me of the days of Poldark fever when you came to town and were kind enough to sign a copy of Ross Poldark for me….I have taken those books with me wherever I have been (including a long 10 yr stint in the Var) Funnily enough I only read them the once (until now), just the sight of the cover photographs was enough to bring the wild west flooding back. Many years later I returned to my beloved Cornwall, (Nr Redruth, but on the coast)
and I walk my dog in true Poldark country. Many is the time that iI fancy that I might run into Ross, Demelza or even trip over Judd asleep in the hedge. Such was the impact your portrayal of my heratige had upon me. Now, only slightly younger than you, I sit in a comfy chair outside, dog at my feet, the sound of the herring gulls overhead and the thundering of the sea against the cliffs a few hundred yards away and I have started re-reading the whole saga again…. bliss! All the atmosphere is still there between the pages and the pictures in my head are those of you and your fellow actors making magic.
So I just want to say thank you, thank you, thank you….
Brian Sutherland.
That is lovely, Brian–thank YOU.
Sounds idyllic and those books ARE worth reading again.
