A packet of new books arrived in the post today–the first reprint of the cookbook.
The reprint corrects one important omission: our dear friend, Hope James, the illustrator, now gets a credit for her evocative watercolour sketches.
Meanwhile the celebrity chef controversy in America has created a window of opportunity (at last) to discuss Type 2 diabetes and the links to what we eat and how we prepare it:

You are right. These are beautiful sketches! My grandfather was a water colorist so I have a great appreciation for them. Your book just arrived. Which recipes do you recommend I try first?
There’s a good choice catering (!) to most tastes–the fishcakes without potatoes seem to feature regularly here.
Hope you enjoy the book, Katherine.
Thank you, Robin. Fishcakes it is! Any others you’ve found are favorites (and simple enough for busy Americans)? I need to do several this weekend…
Also… Can you recommend a wine with each recipe? Thank you!
How does a long-time fan of the actor and newly-appreciative fan of the cook book author get an autograph for her new copy of Delicious Dishes for Diabetics? (Sorry that my copy doesn’t give the illustrator of the lovely watercolors credit.) If I send a book plate and self-addressed envelope across The Pond to your publisher, will it eventually get to you?
I’ll use this site to let you know how the recipes go over with my borderline diabetic husband (he who was raised on meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and 37 different kinds of pie.)
As an artist myself, I want to commend your illustrator. Excellent job! I will order your book because I love your recipes. Fortunately, I do not have diabetes. Linda
Ah! Beautifully evocative water-colours indeed! Very inspiring on a cold and damp London morning! Something to dream about, to plan a sortie to France when the weather is a bit kinder! Made my morning!
Enjoy the weekend.
Be Well. Hope the new little cat is settling well. (He has, probably, in reality, already colonised the household and c’est lui qui dirige!).

Hi Robin
Reprinting – that’s terrific! The best sign of publishing success. By the way, I seem to recognize the label on the bottle of olive oil – your illustrator did a good job and eserves a bottle!

Congratulations to Hope: water-colors are fantastic!!! and Congratulations to you too for new republishing!
The illustrations are lovely, and create a great atmosphere for the book!
Congratulations on the second printing, and to your illustrator.
I really thought about you when I heard about the Paula Dean controversy.
She could have helped so many people, but chose a different road.
Look forward to getting an autograph on the book whenever you arrive in D.C.!
Beautiful!
Hi Robin – lovely pictures and memories of student days with Rose Elliots “load of lentils” – had flatmate who never cooked pulses properly so we got wise and ate before!! My first thought on seeing picture is “why is my cat in this picture?” – ginger cats very photogenic
